Winter Reflection, Spring Intention.
Setting goals & intentions in Winter between being a Myth or unnecessary social pressure
Do you feel pressured to set new intentions at the end of each year?
Do you feel like you’re missing out if you don’t?
Do you sometimes end up “making up” resolutions just to fit into the world order as it presents itself?
You’re not alone.
Winter Is Not the Season for Resolutions
Winter carries a heaviness in our joints and muscles, a natural slowing down. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), winter is the season of the Water element a time to withdraw energy inward, reflect, and nourish ourselves. This nourishment comes through knowledge, food, community, family bonding, and connecting with tradition and culture.
Nature itself shows us the way trees shed their leaves, old branches die back, and space is created for new growth. Winter invites us to notice what we are shedding “anger, vengeance, or habits that no longer serve us”.
Spring: The Season of Intention
If winter is for reflection, then spring is for creation. As energy rises from beneath the snow and dead leaves, our own vitality begins to sprout. The Wood element in TCM embodies growth, creativity, and upward movement.
Spring is the best time to set goals big or small. In Spring our appetite for life naturally awakens. The soil sprouts new ideas, and so do we.
🌿 A Gentle Invitation
So until spring arrives, allow yourself to dive deep into a warm, cozy winter. Reflect on what you want to shed, what you want to nourish, and what you hope will blossom. When the season turns, your intentions will rise with the energy of nature itself stronger, clearer, and more sustainable.
